In partnership with the National Park Service and the Arizona Memorial Museum Association, PBS Hawaii will host a special public preview of “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea,” from 5 to 7:30 p.m Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Arizona Memorial Museum Theater.
Seating is limited, and reservations are required by calling 973-0289 before Monday, Sept. 14.
The 12-hour, six-part documentary series will air nightly on PBS Hawaii from Sunday, Sept. 27 through Friday, Oct. 2.
Directed by Ken Burns, the narrative traces the birth of the national park idea in the mid-1800s and follows its evolution for nearly 150 years. Using archival photographs, first-person accounts of historical characters, personal memories and analysis from more than 40 interviews, and cinematography filmed in the parks themselves, the series chronicles the steady addition of new parks through the stories of the people who helped create and save them.
