Police yesterday found a painting valued at $700,000 that was reported stolen from the Wyland Galleries Waikiki store Sunday night.

The painting, titled "Dolphin Dawn," was not damaged, police said. Police brought the painting to their main station on South Beretania Street and were to return the item to the gallery.

No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation. Police would not say where the painting was found or what led them to it.

The 4-by-6-foot work was taken from the gallery and placed in the back of a teal or turquoise-blue GMC pickup truck that sped away with a woman at the wheel, police were told.

The artwork was painted in 1999 and portrays dolphins and fish by a waterfall and a breaking wave at dawn.
