Local designers part of fashion celebration

Fashion's Night Out is a global initiative, created by Anna Wintour of Vogue and designer Diane von Furstenberg of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Here in the Islands, Neiman Marcus is making the night a celebration of emerging Island fashion as well.
When the Honolulu fashion flock gather to celebrate the onset of the fall fashion season, and to offer a shot in the arm to recession-weary retailers, they will also have an opportunity to see the work of emerging Island fashion designers and fashion students.
In a collaborative effort with the Hawai'i Fashion Incubator, or HiFi, Neiman Marcus asked recent graduates of the Honolulu Community College fashion technology program to present their latest creations on mannequins on the second level of the store. Designers Andy South, Tammy Takaoka, Natasha Li and Iwalani Ynigues have continued on their fashion path since graduating from HCC, and the results of their recent efforts are impressive.
Fashion design students from the Apparel Design and Merchandising Department at UH-Manoa are also participating, with sketches of original designs based on 10 fall trends identified by Neiman Marcus. Among them: red, leopard print, bold shoulders, cozy knits and the little black dress.
The founders of Hifi, Melissa May White and Toby Portner, will be present to talk about their organization and sign up new members.
