Army awaiting autopsy results in soldier's death

Advertiser Staff

Autopsy results are pending on a Schofield Barracks soldier who was found dead in his bed here on Sept. 8, Army officials said yesterday.

An Army investigation continues into the death of Army Spc. Nathan Spangenberg, 21, of Tucson, Ariz., said Lt. Col. Allen Hing, spokesman for the 25th Infantry Division's 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, of which Spangenberg was a member.

The results of the Army autopsy and investigation are expected by the end of the month, Hing said.

Funeral services with military honors for Spangenberg are scheduled for tomorrow in Tucson.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that Spangenberg had been back at Schofield for several months after serving in Iraq. He was discovered dead in his bed after failing to report for duty, the newspaper reported.

A few days before, according to the Star, Spangenberg had told loved ones over the phone that he wasn't feeling well and was undergoing medical tests.
