Wise moves to fifth in LPGA sectional

Kaua'i's Lehua Wise fired a 4-under-par 68 yesterday in the second round of the LPGA's first Sectional Qualifying Tournament, at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Wise moved up from 10th to fifth, with a 36-hole score of 6-under 138. The 2003 Kaua'i High graduate has played on the Duramed Futures Tour since graduating from New Mexico State.
The leader at the halfway point is Azahara Munoz of Spain, at 66—136.
Amateur Ayaka Kaneko, a Sacred Hearts graduate, is tied for 21st at 73-143. Maui's Shayna Miyajima, who also plays the Duramed Tour, made the cut on the number (148) by shooting a 72 and is tied for 64th. Kamehameha graduate Mari Chun (80-156) missed the cut.
The top 30 and ties after tomorrow's round advance to the Final Qualifying Tournament in December in Florida. The second sectional qualifier is Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, also in Florida.
In a PGA Tour Q-School Pre-Qualifying, at Beaumont, Calif., Maui's Samuel Cyr finished in a tie for 12th to advance to the First Stage. Cyr shot rounds of 74-73-68-71 for a total of 2-under 286.

MCLACHLIN STRUGGLES
Hawai'i's Parker McLachlin shot a 3-over 74 yesterday and missed the cut at the Nationwide Tour's Albertson Boise Open at Boise, Idaho.
McLachlin, Punahou alum and a regular on the PGA Tour, had a 36-hole total of 150, missing the cutoff score of 139.
Blake Adams fired a 6-under 65 for a 128 total and a four-stroke lead over Josh Teater (65) after two rounds at the Hillcrest Country Club.

UH WAHINE FALL, 1-0
Farryn Townley scored on a long cross by Niki Connolly at 15:41 and Cal State Northridge hung on to beat the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine, 1-0, yesterday at Northridge, Calif.
UH outshot Northridge, 29-8 (12-5 shots on goal) but couldn't find the back of the net in falling to 1-6-1. Cal State Northridge improved to 4-5-0.
Hawai'i concludes its road trip tomorrow night at Cal State Bakersfield.
