UH math professor indicted in alleged sex abuse of girl

A grand jury has determined that there's enough evidence to order a University of Hawai'i math professor to stand trial for sexual assault.
The panel on Tuesday indicted 63-year-old David Stegenga of Kailua on seven counts of first-degree sexual assault and five counts of third-degree sexual assault.
Authorities say Stegenga regularly abused a young girl over six years. They say the girl, a family friend, was 7 years old when the abuse began. She's now 17.
Stegenga, a tenured professor at UH-Manoa, was arrested last week on campus shortly after he concluded a math class. He is free on $500,000 bail.
