Samoan community asks for prayers, donations
Samoan church and community members in Honolulu today called on people of all faiths to pray for Samoa.
Organizers said they will hold an evening of prayer tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Waipahu Lighthouse Outreach Center, 94-230 Leokane St.
The announcement came this morning after a number of church leaders and citizens met at Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann’s office to discuss Samoan relief and prayer efforts.
Organizers including Gus Hannemann, the mayor’s brother, and Tenari Maafala of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers, said plans also call for a prayer vigil within the next week, to be held at either the state Capitol or Keehi Lagoon.
At that time, people will be asked to make donations. Those donations will be shared with the relief effort for the Philippines.
