Fire destroys Makaha home

Advertiser Staff

A fire destroyed a two-story house in Makaha on Monday night, but there were no reports of injuries.

The fire was reported at 8:56 p.m. at 84-429 Jade St. and the first firefighters at the scene said that the home was fully involved, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. Seelig said the home collapsed as firefighters fought to put out the blaze, which was brought under control at 10:06 p.m.

Seelig said the home was not occupied and the fire was confined to that structure. The fire did an estimated $400,000 in damage, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
