Male students and others at Honolulu Community College showed their opposition to violence against women in a march around campus today.

The students from the carpentry, auto body and automotive mechanics programs were joined by deans, campus leaders and others to encourage the public to stand up against domestic violence.

The mile-long march around the Dillingham Boulevard campus at noon included men wearing high heels in a demonstration of the adage that "you can't understand a person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes," the college said in a press release.

Several speakers were scheduled to share their stories of domestic violence.

The march was in response to gender violence and sexual harassment in the community.
