Rainbow Wahine softball team sets UH season home run mark

The 25th-ranked University of Hawai'i softball team hit nine home runs in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Utah State today to set the school's season record at Logan, Utah.
The Rainbow Wahine (30-11, 8-0 WAC) tied the school record of 84 homers, set in 2007, with four in a 12-4, six-inning victory in the first game. Jessica Iwata hit a grand slam in the sixth inning for the record-tying homer. Hawai'i added five more homers in an 18-8 victory in the second game.
Kelly Majam, who leads the nation in home runs, hit her 21st homer of the season in the first game to tie Kate Robinson's school season mark set in 2008. Jenna Rodriguez hit three homers in the doubleheader.
The Rainbows swept the abbreviated two-game series with the Aggies (14-17, 3-4). The first game was canceled because of snow and will not be made up. UH has 12 regular season games remaining.
In the first game, Rodriguez hit two homers for the Rainbows, a solo shot in the second and a two-run home run in the fourth. Majam hit a solo homer in the fifth.
In the second game, Iwata, Melissa Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Alexandra Aguirre and Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit homers. Rodriguez hit a solo blast in the third to give UH the season home-run mark. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit a three-run blast in an eight-run seventh inning.
Stephanie Ricketts (15-6) earned the victory in both games. In the first game, she allowed four runs (one earned), struck out three and walked two in six innings. In the second game, in relief of Kaia Parnaby, Ricketts pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and four hits, while striking out three and walking two,
