Advertiser Staff

Mark Threlkeld hit two home runs — including a grand slam in an eight-run sixth — to lead Louisiana Tech to a 14-6 win against Hawai'I to salvage a split of the four-game Western Athletic Conference baseball series at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston, La.

Tech starter Mike Jefferson allowed six runs (five earned) in 5 2/3 innings for the Bulldogs (20-18 overall, 6-6 WAC). Dan Breazeale (1-0) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, and was the beneficiary of the eight-run inning.

Nate Klein (1-1), making his first start since March 12 against Southern California, when he sustained a shoulder injury, allowed nine runs, seven hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings for the Rainbows (21-20, 4-8).

Jeffrey Van Doornum, Collin Bennett and Kevin Macdonald hit homers for UH, which led 6-5 after five innings before the Bulldogs sent 12 batters to the plate in their eight-run sixth inning.
