HFD rescues hiker attacked by swarm of bees

Advertiser Staff

HFD crews rescued an injured hiker on Olomana trial this morning after her party tangled with a swarm of bees.

HFD Capt. Terry Seelig said that the woman in her 20s was among a group of hikers walking between the second and third peaks of the trail when they ran into the bees.

In her attempt to escape, the woman slid 50 to 60 feet down the mountainside, Seelig said.

Her friends called for help at 11:24 a.m. Air One airlifted the woman to a nearby district park, where EMS personnel treated her and took her to a hospital in serious condition.
