Hiker fleeing bee swarm injured on Olomana trail

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu firefighters rescued an injured hiker on Olomana trail yesterday morning after her party tangled with a swarm of bees.

The woman in her 20s was among a group of hikers walking between the second and third peaks of the trail when they ran into the bees, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

In her attempt to escape, the woman slid 50 to 60 feet down the trail, Seelig said.

Her friends called for help at 11:24 a.m. HFD's Air One helicopter airlifted the woman to a nearby district park, where paramedics treated her and took her to a hospital in serious condition.
