Hawaii County police have charged a man in connection with a Saturday night stabbing incident that left two people injured.

Emmanuel Niihau Jr. of Kailua, Kona, who also is known as Bob Niihau, was charged yesterday with two assault charges and terroristic threatening. He remains in the Kona cellblock pending an initial court appearance.

Police responded to a 7:41 p.m. call reporting a stabbing at Kahaluu Beach Park.

Police say Niiahu, 58, got into an argument with a 41-year-old woman and stabbed her in the back. When a 51-year-old man tried to intervene, Niihau allegedly stabbed him in the right side.

Niihau was arrested in an abandoned stone church across the park less than an hour after the incident.

Both victims were taken to Kona Community Hospital. The man was treated and released; the woman remains in the hospital in guarded condition.
