Man jailed in connection with 2 non-fatal stabbings

Hawai'i County police were holding a man in connection with a Saturday night stabbing that left two people injured.

Emmanuel Niihau Jr. of Kailua, Kona, was being held at the Kona cellblock while an investigation continues. The suspect is also is known as Bob Niihau.

Police responded to a 7:41 p.m. call Saturday reporting a stabbing at Kahalu'u Beach Park.

Police said a 41-year-old woman and 51-year-old man were with friends in a pavilion when an argument broke out. The woman was stabbed in the back, and when the man went to the woman's aid, he was stabbed in the right side.

Niihau, 58, was arrested in an abandoned stone church across the park less than an hour after the incident.

Both victims were taken to Kona Community Hospital. The man was treated and released; the woman remains in the hospital in guarded condition.
