The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation has awarded a matching grant of $50,000 to the YMCA of Honolulu for its Teen Development Fund.

The grant matches more than $50,000 raised by the YMCA from individual donors from Oct. 20 to Dec. 31, 2009.

The money will support YMCA teen programs such as Healthy Together, which is an effort to engage youth in health and wellness opportunities; Club Mid, a program for middle-school students to help them deal with the high school transition; and Rural Youth Crime Prevention Program, a leadership and counseling program to prevent school dropout, gang involvement and drug abuse.

"The foundation's trustees believe in the mission of the YMCA of Honolulu, and know that they have nurtured generations of Hawai'i's youth through critical youth programs and services," said Cathy Ching, a foundation trustee.

The foundation presented the check to the YMCA on Monday.
