95-year-old Hilo woman in guarded condition after house fire

Advertiser Staff

A 95-year-old woman was in guarded condition last night after a house fire in Hilo.

A county news release says four fire companies and a hazardous materials unit responded to the fire at 1694 Waianuenue Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m.
Firefighters reported smoke coming from all windows of the four-bedroom house, and flames exiting windows at the rear of the house.
Firefighters said a family member pulled the elderly woman from the house. She was treated at the scene by paramedics, then taken to Hilo Medical Center.
Firefighters entered the house and pushed the fire back to the rear bedrooms, where the blaze was extinguished at about 6 p.m.
Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
