Rick Reichart of cakelava, a by-appointment-only cake bakery and decorating service in Honolulu, will be among contestants on The Food Network's propular show, "Challenge," to air 2 p.m. April 4 (Hawaiçi time).

Reichart, who has lived and worked in Los Angeles, Seattle and now Honolulu, has been baking cakes from scratch and decorating them in all manner of styles for 15 years — from cartoon characters to a life-size replica of a tire with a real rim in the center.
The Food Network show, an 8-hour timed culinary competition involving experts in various cooking and baking fields.
Reichart was notified in November that he was invited to be a contestant (they do not accept queries or applications, all compete by invitation only, an honor, Reichart said). The episode was filmed in December.
Cakelava has been in business here since March, 2005.
