Advertiser Staff

A 24-year-old Kailua man was critically injured yesterday morning when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed near the entrance to Hanauma Bay, police said.

The accident happened about 6 a.m. on Kalaniana'ole Highway, two-tenths of a mile east of the entrance to Hanauma Bay. Police said the man was traveling east on a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle when he went out of control on a left curve in the road. He sideswiped a guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway.

Part of the highway was closed until about 8:20 a.m. while police officers investigated.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. He was wearing a helmet, police said.
