Honolulu inflation cooled last year

Honolulu’s inflation rate slowed greatly last year, rising just 0.7 percent.
Figures released by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics show Honolulu’s rate fell from the 4.3 percent increase in 2008.
The bureau said higher prices for housing was responsible for the overall increase in the city’s Consumer Price Index.
The figures also show inflation was lower in the first half of the year and accelerated during the second six months of 2009.
