KEEPING IT KOSHER

Reggae artist Matisyahu, who is as well known for being a devout Hasidic Jew as he is for being down with the dancehall reggae, is scheduled to perform again in the Islands next week with a four-island, four-concert tour.

Matisyahu kicks off his mini tour Thursday at Pipeline Café before continuing on to Kauai (Feb. 27), Maui (Feb. 28) and the Big Island (March 1). The New York-based reggae artist performed in Honolulu once before in 2007. After his upcoming visit to the Islands, Matisyahu will embark on a world tour in support of his latest album, "Light," which was released last August. He is arriving here fresh off of his Winter Olympics appearance in Vancouver, where he performed his single "One Day," which has been used as one of the theme songs for the current Olympic games.

'Iolani School is staging its version of the musical "Kiss Me Kate," (7 p.m. Feb. 25-27, Hawaii Theatre, $10, 943-2244) based on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." The musical version is as wise-cracking as the Bard's original, only with catchy tunes like "Too Darn Hot."

TASTES LIKE BORA BORA

Chef George Mavrothalassitis of Chef Mavro (944-4714), fresh from a trip to French Polynesia, has created a three-course menu using the flavors he encountered while away. The Bora Bora-inspired menu is available nightly starting Tuesday and is $59 per person.

SHUDDER ISLAND

Things are sure to get creepy when director Martin Scorsese takes on author Dennis Lehane's psychological nail biter "Shutter Island," about the 1954 disappearance of a patient from a locked-down hospital for the criminally insane. The movie opens today.

THE RACE IS ON
