A 1-year-old boy from Tokyo went into cardiac arrest aboard a flight bound for Honolulu Tuesday morning and was later pronounced dead at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center, the state Department of Transportation said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the boy as Hyeondo Seo and conducted an autopsy yesterday. There was no preliminary cause of death.
Hyeondo was traveling with his parents aboard China Airlines Flight 18 from Narita airport near Osaka when he went into cardiac arrest about an hour before the flight’s arrival at 7:03 a.m., said DOT spokeswoman Tammy Mori.
State officials did not have information about medical history, Mori said. A doctor aboard the flight performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation but the boy was unresponsive, Mori said.
A medical team met the baby at the airport gate and took him to Kaiser Moanalua, where he was pronounced dead.
