Lei queen applications available

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking women to participate in the 82nd annual Lei Queen Selection event for the 83rd Annual Lei Day Celebration.
Lei queens must be knowledgeable in the arts of making lei and hula, and must be able to convey the spirit of aloha with warmth and dignity.
This year’s theme: He Lei No Ke elikolani (A lei for Ke elikolani — Princess Ruth).
Each year, the queen is selected from one of three rotating groups: women ages 18 to 30; 31 to 54; and 55 and older. This year will feature a queen in the middle bracket (Na Makuahine — the adult women). Also, two princesses are selected for the court.
This year's contestants must be within the 31-to-54 age bracket on March 6. Proof of age is required.
Lei queen selection applications must be postmarked by Jan. 15.
