RICHMOND, Va. — Jim Reid, a linebackers coach with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins the past two years, tells The Associated Press that he will be Virginia’s defensive coordinator and associate head coach.
Reid’s official appointment is expected to be announced later Thursday. It will mark a reunion — and role reversal — of sorts for he and head coach Mike London. London, hired to replace Al Groh last month, was an outside linebackers coach on Reid’s staff at Richmond in 1995 and 1996.
Reid has extensive college coaching experience, having spent 19 years at Massachusetts, the last six as head coach from 1986-91. He also was the head coach at Richmond for nine years and at Virginia Military Institute for two years before leaving to take the Dolphins’ job.
