GRAMMY TIME

The fifth annual Hawaii Grammy Concert takes place tonight, with 2009 Hawaiian Grammy Award winners Tia Carrere and Daniel Ho headlining the show.

Also performing are Amy Hānaiali'i (doing duets with John Cruz, Eric Gilliom, Kaumaka'iwa Kanaka'ole and Dennis Kamakahi), Ho'okena and slack-key artists Dennis Kamakahi, Kawika Kahiapo, George Kahumoku, Sonny Lim, Keoki Kahumoku, Jeff Peterson and Owana Salazar.

In other words: It's going to be a big night.

DOCTOR'S ORDERS

Late actor Heath Ledger's last film, Terry Gilliam's fantasy "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," opens today at the Kahala 8 theaters. Word is: It's a can't-miss.

It's that time again, people. Because no matter how often we vow to never watch again, we always do. The ninth season of "American Idol" debuts at 7 p.m. Tuesday on Fox, and for the first time, without the loopiness of departed kind judge Paula Abdul.

HEAR JAKE FOR FREE

'Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro will make an appearance at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow in the lobby of the Hawaii State Library (478 S. King St., 586-3535, free). He'll be playing his uke and speaking on the positive influence of music.

A LITTLE FOLK, PLUS A LITTLE HIP-HOP

Boulder, Colo.-based electro-acoustic duo LYNX & Janover will play NextDoor today (9 p.m.; $5 before 10:30 p.m., $10 after 10:30 p.m.; 21+), with bands Kings of Spade and Family Dinner repping the local scene.

FUNNY, BUT TRUE

Comedian and political satirist Will Durst will perform at Pipeline Café (8 p.m., $20, 877-714-7668, www.groovetickets.com) as part of Pipeline's Wednesday-night comedy series. Durst's comedic style has earned him the unofficial rank of "equal opportunity offender."

RAISE A GLASS TO FRIENDSHIP

Manoa Valley Theatre continues its season with its production of "The Dixie Swim Club" (Thursday through Jan. 31, $15-$30, 988-6131) a story of five girlfriends and their summertime meet-ups to laugh, gossip and meddle.
