No. 1 UConn women rout No. 7 North Carolina, 88-47

STORRS, Conn. — Tina Charles scored all of her 25 points in the first half and grabbed 13 rebounds to help top-ranked Connecticut rout No. 7 North Carolina, 88-47, yesterday for its 54th consecutive victory.

The streak ties one Louisiana Tech made from 1980-82 as the second-longest in Division I women's basketball history. UConn (15-0) also has the longest streak, 70 straight between 2001 and 2003.

She'la White scored nine to lead North Carolina (13-2).

NO. 3 NOTRE DAME 81, VILLANOVA 46

Skylar Diggins scored 18 and the host Irish (14-0, 1-0 Big East) routed the Wildcats (10-3, 0-2).

NO. 23 OKLAHOMA STATE 78, NO. 5 BAYLOR 65

Andrea Riley scored 43 and the host Cowgirls (13-2) used a 24-4 second-half run to beat the Bears (13-2) in the Big 12 opener for both.

NO. 6 OHIO STATE 65, NO. 19 MICHIGAN STATE 62

Samantha Prahalis scored 32 points as the Buckeyes (17-1, 5-0 Big Ten) rallied past the Spartans (11-5, 2-3).

NO. 10 TEXAS A&M 91, NO. 15 TEXAS 70

Tanisha Smith scored 28 points and the visiting Aggies (13-1) routed the Longhorns (11-4) in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Paris Gravely scored 25 points as the visiting Sea Warriors (7-4, 3-0) beat the Argonauts (5-8, 1-1).

Mac Baskerville scored 22 points as the host Lady Penguins (4-9, 1-1) beat the Vulcans (3-11, 0-3). Hina Kimitete scored 16 points for Hilo.

Samantha Murphy scored 20 points as the host Antelopes (8-5, 2-0) beat the Seasiders (4-8, 0-2). BYUH's Richelle Fenenbock and Mahina Gago each scored 13 points.

DIXIE STATE 94, CHAMINADE 54

Veronica Siqueiros scored 18 points and the host Red Storm (6-5, 2-0) routed the Silverswords (1-9, 0-2). Brittany Bridges scored 19 for Chaminade.
