Bucks' Redd out for season

Associated Press

Michael Redd's first season with a surgically repaired left knee ended the same way his previous one did.

Redd tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee for the second time in less than a year on Sunday night in the second quarter of Milwaukee's 95-77 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

An MRI yesterday in Phoenix revealed the injury, which will require surgery. The Bucks guard previously had surgery in March after tearing the same ligaments last January.

Redd, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, will have surgery later this month and begin rehab as soon as possible. He had mostly struggled this season. He already had missed 16 games this year with knee soreness and was averaging just 11.9 points in 18 games, 12 starts.

Also, Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat last night shortly before the Bucks' game at Phoenix.

Skiles, who spoke to the media shortly before the game and showed no signs of illness, was hospitalized for precautionary purposes, a team spokesman said.

Skiles, 45, is in his second year as Milwaukee's coach. The Bucks were 15-19 going into last night's game.

Jim Boylan coached the Bucks in Skiles' absence.

NOTES

Warriors: Golden State forward Anthony Randolph will be sidelined perhaps two months or more with a serious ankle injury.

Randolph, averaging 11.6 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds in 22.7 minutes per game this season, underwent an MRI exam yesterday on his injured left ankle that revealed a tear of two outside ligaments in the ankle and a sprain in another ligament. He also has an avulsion fracture where the muscle pulled away from a piece of bone.

Gun issue: Three more members of the Washington Wizards have met with authorities concerning the Gilbert Arenas gun investigation.

Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson had to miss practice yesterday to answer questions. Coach Flip Saunders and other players met with authorities last week.

Arenas is under investigation for bringing guns to the Verizon Center and related incidents stemming from a dispute with teammate Javaris Crittenton. Arenas has been suspended indefinitely by the NBA, and Crittenton has been excused from team activities while the legal process plays out.
