A man was killed and a woman injured in a motorcycle accident yesterday near Hilo, the Hawai'i County fire department reported.

The incident happened near mile-marker 2 on Akaka Falls Road, the fire department said.

Firefighters responding to a 2:16 p.m. call found both people lying on the road at the scene of a motorcycle accident. The man was dead and the woman was taken to Hilo Medical Center with multiple injuries.

Hawai'i County police opened an investigation.
