For the love of Grandma

Grandmothers will be honored in art and play at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday.
The academy is exhibiting "In Honor of Grandmother," inspiring the family day theme "I [heart] Grandma," a free event for all ages. Visitors are encouraged to bring their grandmothers, and the first 100 grandmas will get a complimentary flower.
In November, the academy put out a call for images of grandmothers, which have been used in a tile textile piece included in the "In Honor of Grandmother" exhibition. Contributors can view the artwork in Gallery 22 and people who come tomorrow can bring in new images of their grandmothers, which will be scanned in by Academy staff and added to the work.
Family Sunday art activities include making miniature flower arrangements and fabric postcards for grandmas. There will also be quilting demonstrations, a performance by the dynamic seniors in the North Shore Scottish Country Dancers, storytelling by Hannelore Herbig and bingo.
Admission to the Honolulu Academy of Arts is free tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 532-8700 or visit www.honoluluacademy.org.
