Advertiser Staff

A 73-year-old man died of injuries suffered in a pedestrian accident Thursday near Chinatown, police said.

Yui Tung Ng of 'A'ala Street was hit by a car just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of North Vineyard Boulevard and 'A'ala Street.

Police opened a negligent homicide investigation of the driver of the car.

It was O'ahu's second pedestrian fatality in four days. On Tuesday, 81-year-old Hideno Matsumoto was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle as she was crossing Pali Highway near Puiwa Street in Nu'uanu.

HOUSE, 2 BUSES DESTROYED IN FIRE

A fire yesterday morning destroyed a house and two buses on property along Wai'anae Valley Road, officials said.

One person was home at the time, but escaped unharmed. The loss was estimated at $160,000 to the house and $40,000 to its contents.

Fire investigators were unable to determine how the fire started, the fire department said. The fire began about 4:50 a.m. in a bus being used as a sleeping area. The fire spread to the house and a second bus, which did not have a smoke alarm.
