BERLIN — Spanish boxer Pablo Navascues has lost his chance of fighting Sebastian Sylvester for the IBF middleweight title after failing a doping test during training.
Promoter Sauerland Event said on its Web site Saturday that Navascues tested positive for banned substances during a random test earlier this month. Sauerland did not disclose what Navascues tested positive for.
Sauerland general manager Chris Meyer said the company has a "a zero-tolerance policy" and was glad the testing "paid dividends."
Germany's Sylvester will now make his first title defense against American Billy Lyell instead.
The fight is scheduled for Jan. 30 in Neubrandenburg, Germany.
