HTY opens 'The Three Year Swim Club' Feb. 5
Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s production of “The Three Year Swim Club” opens on Feb. 5 for a monthlong run.
The play by Lee A. Tonouchi is based on the true story of 1930s high school students on Maui who were determined to make it to the Olympics. Under swimming coach Soichi Sakamoto, the students begin training in sugar plantation irrigation ditches under Sakamoto’s motto: “Olympics First, Olympics Always.”
Opening night tickets, which include a post-show reception, are $10 for children and $20 for adults. Tickets for subsequent performances at 4:30 p.m. Saturdays through March 6 will be $8 for children and $16 for adults, with discounts for college students, seniors and active duty military.
