Fire destroys a duplex unit, leaving residents homeless

The Red Cross was providing emergency shelter and other help to residents who were left homeless yesterday after fire destroyed a three-bedroom duplex home at 922 Kahikolu Place in Āliamanu.

The fire was reported at 1:40 p.m. and extinguished at 3:04 p.m. No one was injured.

A man was home in the adjoining duplex unit but got out unharmed, fire officials said.

Two men and a woman lived in the home where the fire began.

Four fire companies and 22 firefighters battled the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Loss was estimated at $315,000 to the two-story building.

Exterior siding to a duplex unit next door at 924 Kahikolu Place suffered an estimated $5,000 damage.
