Benefit hoops clinic at Kalāheo

The Windward Nazar-ene Academy Basketball Clinic, featuring Dennis Agena and the coaches of the Kalakaua Foundation, will be held Feb. 20-21 at Kalāheo High School gym.

Registration fee is $60.

Proceeds will benefit the Academy's fourth grade Big Island study tour.

The clinic is open to boys and girls grades 3-12 with some basketball experience recommended.

Grades 3-6 will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Grades 7-12 will be from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SAND SOCCER EVENT AT DERUSSY BEACH

Registration is being accepted for the third Hawaii Sand Soccer Championship to be held Feb. 14 at DeRussy Beach in Waikīkī.

Players 13 to adult are eligible to play sand soccer. Team registration is required by Monday.

Said to be Hawai'i's only sand soccer event, it draws about 50 teams and 500 players who compete on five fields.

UH HOSTS STRENGTH COACHES CLINIC

Coaches of all levels, athletic trainers and those in the fitness industry are invited to attend the Hawai'i Strength Coaches Clinic at the University of Hawai'i's Alexander Waterhouse Training Facility tomorrow.

The clinic features local and national speakers and will touch upon topics such as speed and agility, nutrition, team accountability, football offseason conditioning and volleyball offseason conditioning.

The clinic is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A networking social will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $75 and includes a shirt and lunch. There is a $35 cancellation fee.

Clinic speakers include UH's Tommy Heffernan, Dr. Charles Morgan and Allen Titchenal, Texas' Donnie Maib, Oregon State's Brendon Ziegler, Doug Elisaia of Utah, and Chad Ikei of Ikei Performance.

• The Kailua Mustangs are looking for volunteers interested in coaching Pop Warner football and cheerleading. The Mustangs are looking to field football teams in the Mitey Mite to Midget Divisions and cheer squads in the Jr. Pee Wee to Midget Divisions.
