Kauai firefighters this morning are mopping up hot spots from a brushfire that was ignited yesterday next to Lihue Airport.

A county news release says the fire was reported at 4:46 p.m. and burned about eight acres along the south edge of the airport runway.

The fire was declared under control at 7 p.m.

No one was injured and no structures damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
