Koloa Rum Co.'s Kauai Dark Rum received a gold medal in the Rum Renaissance Festival held last month in Miami.

The Lihue-based company won the medal in the dark rum category at the May 5-9 event that featured 100 rums from around the world.

A panel of international rum conducted blind tastings and rigorous evaluations of rum in eight major categories, according to a news release from Koloa. More than 1,900 people attended.

"Having received multiple awards in two consecutive Rum Competitions is a tremendous honor and reflects the expertise, dedication, and hard work of our employees and their relentless efforts to produce premium products that consistently exceed our customer's high expectations," said Bob Gunter, president of Koloa Rum Co.
