Abercrombie endorses Hanabusa for 1st Congressional District race
Democrat Neil Abercrombie today endorsed Senate President Colleen Hanabusa in her campaign for the 1st Congressional District.
He made the announcement at a press conference this afternoon at his Ward Warehouse campaign headquarters.
He also applauded Ed Case, who came in third for the special election race to fill his vacant U.S. House seat, for withdrawing from the upcoming congressional race.
"He recognized that the voters that supported him can unite with those who supported Colleen Hanabusa to restore confidence in government and put our values first," Abercrombie said. "He placed the needs of Hawaii's people over his own personal, political interests.
"Ed's withdrawing from the race will help assure that we do not cancel out our vote in Congress with the election of someone who will work against the policies of President Obama."
Abercrombie said he is endorsing Hanabusa because of her service and leadership in the community.
"She will be a great partner to Mazie Hirono, our entire congressional delegation, and President Obama," he said. "If given the opportunity, I will work with them as governor to form a powerful team for Hawaii."
Republican Charles Djou was the special-election winner to replace Abercrombie.
