All of Kapiolani Park to close midnight to 5 a.m.
Starting Monday, March 1, all of Kapiolani Park will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. in an attempt to alleviate any confusion of park hours from overnight campers, the city has announced.
The section of Kapiolani Park makai of Kalakaua Avenue from Kapahulu Avenue to the War Memorial Natatorium used to close from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m., the city said.
In the summer of 2008, more than 150 overnight campers could be counted in the park.
In 2008, the city passed a law that provided for a stricter definition of camping and banned overnight use of the park from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
