University of Hawai'i right-hander Lenny Linsky yesterday was named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Linsky, a sophomore from Palos Verdes, Calif., earned three saves in UH's three wins over No. 25 Oregon last week.

Linsky pitched 5.1 innings with five strikeouts while giving up only one hit during the week.

Linsky started with a two-inning save, striking out three without giving up a run, hit or walk. He then allowed one hit in a one-inning save. On Sunday, he recorded the final two outs in the first game of a doubleheader to preserve a 5-2 victory.

The Rainbows play a four-game series against The Citadel starting Thursday.

MAZZURANA IS BEST

University of Hawai'i freshman Luca Mazzurana was named the Conference USA Invitational Swimmer of the Meet, and UH head coach Victor Wales was named Coach of the Meet, following the four-day invitational last week.

UH finished second at the meet, which concluded Saturday. The Rainbow Warriors scored 833 points, their second most since joining C-USA. UH narrowly lost out to defending champion SMU, which had 871.

Mazzurana, from Bolzano, Italy, won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly and finished third in the 200 butterfly. He also was on the UH team that finished third in the 400 medley relay.

Wales led UH to a second-place finish for the third time in a row. It was his first C-USA Coach of the Meet honor. Wales was named WAC Coach of the Year in 2006.
