Brysen Pasion, of Mililani Middle School, is the winner of the Hawaii State Spelling Bee champion and Hannah Komar, of Our Savior Lutheran School, is the runner-up.
Pasion won for the word c-o-m-m-i-s-s-a-r-y in the 2010 Hawaii State Spelling Bee at the Windward Community College Paliku Theater.
"I won't forget how to spell that word," Pasion said. "It was tough."
The bee is sponsored by the Honolulu Advertiser. The winner won two all-expense trips to the 2010 Spripps National Spelling Bee Champion in May in Washington, D.C., an unabridged International Dictionary from Merriam-Webster and one for their school.
More than 240 finalists will compete in May.
