A man who died Saturday on Wai'anae Valley Road was identified yesterday as Anthony Gomes, 23, of Wai'anae.

Gomes was killed at 1:20 p.m. Saturday when his car struck a utility pole.

When Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene of the crash, 85-621 Waianae Valley Road, they found Gomes unresponsive and pronounced him dead at 2:05 p.m.

Honolulu firefighters assisted paramedics in removing the man.

The accident is being investigated by Honolulu police. Gomes was the 14th person to die on O'ahu as a result of a motor vehicle accident this year.
