The Hawaii State Teachers Association on Tuesday endorsed state Sen. Colleen Hanabusa in the special election for the Congressional seat vacated by Neil Abercrombie.

Former U.S. Rep. Ed Case and Honolulu councilman Charles Djou are also running, with Djou officially filing Tuesday.
“When it comes to public schools, every decision is a political decision, so it’s important that we elect leaders who will consistently fight for public schools,” HSTA President Wil Okabe said in a statement. “We need elected officials who will go to bat for public schools and the students they serve every day, not just at election time. That’s why we chose Colleen.”
The special election is scheduled for May 22.
