A 28-year-old man died last night after he was struck by a van while walking on Honoapiilani Highway near Lahaina, Maui.

A Maui police news release says the man was hit shortly after 12:15. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van, who was the vehicle's only occupant, was not injured.
Police have not yet determined whether speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Police are withholding identification of the victim until his relatives have been notified.
Honoapiilani Highway was closed from Kapunakea to Keawe streets until 4 a.m. this morning.
Police said it was Maui’s fourth traffic fatality of 2010, the same number at this time last year.
