Photovoltaic system running at Kauai Community College

PUHI, Hawaii — The sun is now meeting some of the daytime electrical power needs of Kauai Community College.
The switch to a new photovoltaic system that was installed in January was thrown last week. The system is located atop the community college’s One Stop Center, which houses a range of student services.
KCC’s director of administrative services, Gary Nitta, says under ideal conditions, the system will provide about 6.2 percent of the college’s electrical power.
The system was installed by REC Solar. Regional sales manager Drew Bradley says KCC will be hooked up to a Web site where students, staff and the public can log on to see the production of electricity in real time.
