Hawaii governor considers joining health bill lawsuit

Associated Press

HONOLULU — Gov. Linda Lingle and Attorney General Mark Bennett are considering joining one or more lawsuits that have been filed against the health reform legislation that President Obama signed Tuesday.

The Republican governor made the statement Monday during her regular appearance on a Honolulu radio show.
Within minutes of Obama enacting the new law, Virginia filed a federal lawsuit against it. The suit alleges the law exceeds the federal government’s power to regulate interstate commerce.
Thirteen attorneys general filed a similar suit in Florida. All but one of the officials are Republicans.
Lingle says the law forces states to provide services without funding. She says she and Bennett are reviewing the lengthy legislation.
