University of Hawai'i softball's Kelly Majam was honored as Western Athletic Conference hitter of the week and baseball's Josh Slaats was named pitcher of the week, the conference announced yesterday.

It was the second honor of the season for both players.

Majam, a freshman outfielder from Pine Valley, Calif., had eight hits with five home runs and one double last week en route to MVP honors at the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.

Against Lipscomb on March 18, Majam went 3 for 3 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs. Majam is currently on an eight-game hitting streak, her second longest of the season.

She has 15 home runs, tied for fourth all-time on the UH single-season list.

Slaats, a junior from San Ramon, Calif., struck out a career-high 10 in 5 1/3 innings in a 4-0 victory over Air Force. He allowed three hits and a walk.

Slaats is 2-0 with a 0.40 ERA in 22 2/3 innings pitched, striking out 26 with six walks and one earned run for the season.

New Mexico State designated hitter/catcher Ben Harty was WAC baseball hitter of the week, while Fresno State's Michelle Moses was WAC softball pitcher of the week.
