Byron, Heinrich win Hawaii's CrossFit Sectionals

Andrew Byron of Kailua and Katie Heinrich of Honolulu won the CrossFit Sectionals, a multi-discipline competition, at CrossFit Oahu on March 13 and 14.

Byron, 23, is a student at Hawai‘i Pacific University. Heinrich, 32, is an assistant professor in public health at the University of Hawai‘i.
The top three men and women in the sectionals qualified for the regionals, May 8 and 9, in Orange County, Calif. Erik Alvarez placed second in the men's sectional, followed by Adam Jamieson. In the women's competition, Mahina Lui-Kwan was second and Emilia Quezada third.
More than 40 Hawai‘i athletes entered the competition, which was open to the public.
The event included tests on lifting, gymnastics, flexibility and endurance, including one-legged squats, 20-foot hands-only rope climb, heavy clean-and-jerk, and a 500-meter row.
