Rescue crews suspend search for missing hikers in Makaha

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews have suspended a search for missing hikers in Makaha.

HFD responded to a 8 p.m. call from someone who reported seeing lights in the mountains. Dispatchers later received a call from one of the hikers, but crews were unable to locate the party, according to HFD spokesperson Capt. Earle Kealoha.
A rescue helicopter scanned the area but also could not locate the hikers.
The search was suspended at 9:20 p.m. Crews will resume the search tomorrow at first light.
It is not known how many people are in party or what their condition might be.
