Hawaii visitor arrivals post another incremental gain in February

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii's visitor industry showed more signs of stabilizing with visitor arrivals posting another incremental gain in February.

A total of 531,094 visitors traveled to the Islands during the month, a 0.7 percent increase over February 2009. They spent $850 million, a 0.3 percent decline from a year earlier, the Hawaii Tourism Authority reported today.

Among the major islands, Maui saw a 7.2 percent increase in visitor arrivals in February. Supporting the heavier visitor traffic were new direct routes and increased direct flights into Kahului airport, the HTA reported.

Among the top four visitor markets, arrivals from the U.S. West and U.S. East fell by 2.6 percent and 8.2 percent respectively. Those declines were offset by increases in arrivals from Japan (2.5 percent) and Canada (16.2 percent).
