Rainbow Wahine win, finish fifth in MPSF water polo tourney

Carmen Eggens scored three goals and Hawai'i held off a late surge by San Diego State to earn a 7-6 victory over San Diego State in the fifth-place match today of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo tournament at Los Angeles.

The No. 4 seed Rainbow Wahine (18-8) scored five consecutive goals to take a 7-3 lead after three quarters over seventh-seeded San Diego State (21-15). Eggens scored the last two goals of the run to complete her hat trick in the third quarter. She also scored in the second period.

The Aztecs scored three times in the final period, including Meaghan Poland's goal with 55 seconds left to close UH's lead to 7-6.

Serena Bredin finished with 10 saves in the cage for Hawai'i while Kelly Campoli recorded seven for San Diego State.

Monika Eggens added two goals and Amarens Genee and Saara Majuri had one each for the Rainbow Wahine.
